Five of the first cases treated with transcranial magnetic repetitious stimulation (rTMS) in the Psychiatric Hospital of Mallorca are presented. Two patients with Major Depression, another two with Schizophrenia and one with Bipolar Disorder in maniacal phase have been taken into consideration. All of them were taking specific medication to full dose for more than two months, without a satisfactory clinic response being observed until the beginning of the technique. The two patients with Depression improved very clearly, one of the patients with Schizophrenia presented a doubtful improvement, and in the other two remaining no meaningful changes were appreciated. Before the exposition and commentary of the cases, a summarized presentation of the technique is made. To end some reflections in connection with its unknown mechanism of action are provided in which it is hazarded a hypothesis based on the models of kindling and long term potentiation (LTP), and in the conceptual framework of the new theories of the complexity, non-linearity or chaos.
