Keywords: Depression / Classification / Endogenous / Neurotic.
The authors revise the historical evolution of the endogenous/neurotic classification of the depression, that is already centennial.
They underline those aspects that the different authors have gone incorporating to the original classification. They also revise the data that support the point of view dimensionalist and categorialist of the depression.
The authors incorporate a new position about this classification: the sequential hypothesis.
Such hypothesis sustains, with the dimensionalist, that exist two dimension or sindroms in the depression: a neurotiform and other endogeniform. But they don't correspond to two morbid different entities, but to two evolutionary different moments of the same illness. The first phases would have aspect neurotiform, and the following would have aspect endogeniform.
The biological opposing differences between the endogenous and neurotic depressions would not be more than an establishment ontogenic of the biological alterations characteristic of the depression.
The authors incorporate own data and of the scientific literature supporting their sequential vision of the classification endogenous/ neurotic of the depression.
