The relationship between anxiety and depression, and with other psychiatric disorders supposes a big controversy, preceded by the classic problems in defining the symptom dependence or independence and the casualty direction.

In the addiction field, this problem increases due to the external substances implication, fact that is not included in the pathological gambling being the conclusions which are derived from these disorder investigations more viable at the time of knowing the addictive ethiology.

In this article, some studies which have studies the role of anxiety and/or depression in acquisition and maintenance of the pathological gambling are revised, in order to the different positions, extrapolating the conclusions to other addictions.

The revision suggests the unification of the theoretical and empiric criteria in order to establish the implication and directionality of psychological factors related to the pathological gambling.
