| Resumen: | "Parc Serentill" es una residencia asistida dependiente de la Generalitat de Catalunya y gestionada por la Fundació Vallparadís, que pertenece al Grupo Mútua de Terrassa. La residencia "Parc Serentill" está situada en Badalona y en ella residen 56 ancianos y otros 25 pasan en ella el día. La plantilla estructural la componen 40 personas.
Desde septiembre de 1997, y gracias a un acuerdo con la Fundación Purina, también viven en la residencia dos perros de la raza Golden retriever. Durante estos tres años, la experiencia nos ha enseñado que la presencia de los animales en la residencia y su relación con los ancianos ha estimulado y modificado diferentes aspectos afectivos, comunicativos e incluso, en algunos casos, cognitivos. Por lo tanto, de manera subjetiva, hemos podido comprobar el potencial terapéutico de la interacción entre ancianos y animales. La novedad del estudio que presentamos es, entre otras, a nivel metodológico, ya que para validar
científicamente las hipótesis hemos querido que fueran los propios usuarios de la terapia asistida por animales de
compañía (TAAC) los auténticos protagonistas de la evaluación y no meros objetos de estudio pasivos. A partir de una sencilla consigna, hemos pedido a ancianos usuarios y trabajadores del centro que expresen
libremente su opinión (beneficios e inconvenientes) sobre la presencia de los animales en la residencia. Y todo
este material testimonial, obtenido de personas directamente implicadas en la TAAC, ha sido grabado, transcrito, analizado y comparado, y constituye la base de nuestro estudio cualitativo. Los resultados obtenidos del trabajo confirman y verifican, a la vez que amplían, las conclusiones demostradas en anteriores congresos y comunicaciones científicas, centradas básicamente en los beneficios físicos, psíquicos y sociales que aportan las TAAC a diferentes poblaciones.
[ABSTRACT] "Parc Serentill” is an assisted nursing home that belongs to Grupo Mútua de Terrassa. It is run by Fundació Vallparadís and it depends on the Catalan Government. This rest home is sited in Badalona. There are 56 elderly people who stay day and night and there are 25 people who stay just along the day. The staff is formed by 40 attendants. Since September 1997, two Golden Retriever dogs live in the rest home, thanks to the agreement reached with Fundación Purina. From then on, we have observed the influence of the presence of these animals on the rest home life and how the relationship between these animals and the elderly people under the pet-assisted therapy has modified some affective, communicative and even cognitive aspects in those people. Therefore, we have checked the therapeutic potential that the interaction between animals and elderly people has from a subjective point of view. Some aspects of the methodology we have used happen to be new in this kind of investigation. In order to make
our hypothesis valid patients themselves have become the subjects of the evaluation really and not just mere objects to be studied in the process. Starting from a simple instruction, patients and attendants were asked to expose their experience freely: the benefits and the inconveniences they found since the pets arrival. All this data, obtained from people who are in
direct touch with the therapy, was recorded, transcribed, analyzed and compared. So, this data constitutes the base of our qualitative investigation. Finally, the results of this work confirm, verify and even extend the conclusions to which previous conventions and scientific reports had come. Basically the conclusions focus on the physical, psychical and social benefits that people under this pet-assisted therapy have obtained in different places. |
